Connecting the Meta ads integration

filmed 4 October 2026 · 6:38

Today on Underway I hit a milestone, with Meta ads bringing in ten new sign-ups, and I talked through what that means for the free account flow. I also connected a read-only Meta ads integration so daily spend, reach, and leads show up automatically, and founders will be able to connect theirs too while the review is open. I started thinking about how the free three-episode trial can build a habit of documenting regularly, and left milestone alerts for sign-ups and payments for another episode.

AI co-host: Hey, I’m Marin, your co-host on Underway. I’ve got your episodes and activity handy if you want anything looked up. What do you want to talk about today? Founder: To be honest, Marion, I was hoping that you had the topics, because as I was setting this episode up, I did pick the topics. So are you telling me you don't have that to hand? AI co-host: I don’t see a specific topic list right in front of me, so I shouldn’t pretend there is one. I do have your episodes and activity available to look up if you want to anchor on something concrete—like what shipped, what changed, or what happened yesterday. Otherwise, we can just start with how the product feels right now. What’s the part you’re most unsure about today? Founder: I mean, you definitely spoke too long there. OK, well, that's another book that I'm gonna have to fix, right? But I thought to myself, do you know what, I've never filmed on the app, in the phone, in my car, so I'm not connected to Wi-Fi and I'm doing that. But do you know what, I did want to speak to you about, or I did want to speak about this topic in general of meta ads. I think I spoke about this earlier today, but even just today, I think I've got... AI co-host: Let me look that up Founder: Many more sign-ups? I mean, to be honest, when I was setting up this episode, it did say to me, Rich, record a moment, you have 10 new sign-ups today. Founder: So, you know, it's a milestone, isn't it? AI co-host: Yes, it is a milestone, and the record for 2026-10-04 shows you talked about getting sign-ups today—“we got like 12 signups”—while also noting there was a sign-in link bug. There’s also a milestone entry today that your ads brought in 10 leads. If you want, I can look up the exact phrasing from the milestone or the episode snippet. Founder: Um, go ahead. I mean, that's amazing. Pat myself on the back for that, right? That's super good. AI co-host: Nice, let me pull out the exact line so we can quote it properly. AI co-host: The exact snippet in the record for 2026-10-04 is: “We ran ads and we got leads. We got people coming through and signing up.” Founder: Excellent. Founder: 거 Founder: Go on. Founder: Marvin, you haven't gone to the, like, you haven't gone to the basement, have you? AI co-host: Still here, no basement detour, promise. If you want to keep going on Meta ads, the record today shows leads coming in and sign-ups being discussed, plus the sign-in bug that muddied the experience. Do you want to talk about what you’ve seen in the numbers, or what you want the next user to feel when they hit that flow? Founder: Yeah, well, do you know what? I was thinking about this. I've just got out of the gym and I was thinking, um... AI co-host: Nice—a post-gym brain Founder: It kind of feels like... AI co-host: Like the ideas are there, but they Founder: I could have done this anyway, but because all of the ads are kind of focused in on the least friction, aka getting free signups, right, and you get three free episodes in doing so, but I haven't really, like, put myself in the shoes of someone doing that and, like, how it looks, how it feels, how the landing page, you know. Founder: It walks you through that, why you should do it, and then I also need to think about... Founder: How does the free account type help you build habits? Because, you know, at the end of the day, this app is really about building the habit of documenting and trying to do it on a regular basis. Obviously, you don't need to do as much as me, right, but I really do need to sit and think about the habit forming. Do you, I mean, do you have any, any bits of advice for me? AI co-host: A simple habit loop can help here: a clear trigger, a tiny action, and a quick reward. For the free account, the trigger could be a daily prompt or a milestone nudge. The tiny action is capturing a short moment or answering one question. The reward is seeing progress instantly, like a streak, a preview clip, or a “you showed up” message. Keep the first run ridiculously light, then gradually add more options. That way it feels like momentum, not homework. If you’d like, we can map that into the sign-up and first-day experience step by step. Founder: OK, OK. Um, another thing I connected today that I, I, I think is, actually, do you know what, I'm gonna, I'm gonna ask you, did we, what did we connect today? Um, for now, it's just me being able to connect this, but... Founder: And founders will be able to connect this too. Can you pull that out for me? AI co-host: Let me look that up so I can quote the record accurately. AI co-host: From the 2026-10-04 record, there’s a Meta ads connection path. It’s read-only, and each day’s spend, reach, and leads become a line the interview can ask about. There’s also a note that testers get a Connect link while the review is open. If you want, I can pull more of the related context, since the record says there’s more than fits here. Founder: There we go. There we go. It's amazing. Well done. Well done, Maren. Yeah, I think it's gonna be good for founders as well, because obviously, what I realised is I'm running, I'm running Meta ads, right, and I'm seeing people sign up and stuff. And for me, again, that's a milestone. That's something I wanna track. And if the app tracks it without me having to think and then tells me, you know, you've got a sign-up, you've got a sign-up, or you've just had two sign-ups, or you've just hit 20, or you just got your first payment. These kind of things I want a way under where it was created, you know, and you can, someone's about to Oh, someone in front of me nearly hit my car. AI co-host: Whoa, that sounds close. Keep your attention on the road. We can pick Founder: Aha. AI co-host: Okay—eyes up, steering steady. I’m right here, but let’s keep this short while you’re moving. If you want, once you’re parked we can pick up at the milestone alerts—sign-ups, payments, those little “you’re progressing” nudges. Founder: Well, I'm not driving, so don't worry. But yeah, should we finish the episode there, or is there anything else you think there was significant today? AI co-host: Sure, let me quickly check the record for any standout items before we wrap. Founder: She's gone to the basement again. AI co-host: Ha, fair. No basement, just a quick scan. Today’s standout items in the record are the read-only Meta ads connection, tracking daily spend, reach, and leads, email opens tracking, and improvements to signup status and admin signups. There’s also a note that filmed episodes get a founder frame as a cover until one is chosen. If you’re good to wrap, we can close it there. Founder: Yeah, some of those I think I could do on another episode, but yeah, peace out!
