First paid ads campaign review

filmed 2 October 2026 · 5:28

I reviewed Underway's first paid ads campaign, called Underway - Founders - US, by screen sharing the Ads Manager with my AI co-host. It could see three ad sets each with a daily budget of about $33.33 and zero spend so far, and we looked at an ad creative preview with two versions side by side, including the headline 'The camera, or just your voice'. Partway through looking at a second ad the co-host dropped out and went quiet, which we didn't resolve by the end. I also found out the co-host only works from saved records, not a live connection, after asking it what I'd done today and getting no match.

AI co-host: Hey! I’m your co-host for Underway, with your episodes and activity to hand if you want anything looked up. What do you want to talk about today? Founder: I'm not really sure, I mean, do you have context on what I've done today? AI co-host: Let me look that up. AI co-host: I couldn’t find any saved record for today, October 2, 2026. The import can be incomplete, so I shouldn’t guess or substitute another day. If you want, you can tell me what you’ve been working on, and I can help you talk it through. Founder: Well, firstly, like, do you, let's say in simple terms, can you see what I've, which episodes I've posted today, which episode numbers? AI co-host: Let me look that up. AI co-host: I can’t see any episode numbers posted today from the saved record. There’s a note “told on 2026-10-02” mentioning a YouTube post finishing a portrait episode, but it doesn’t give the episode number, and it’s described rather than confirmed as a published record. There are also build and newsletter records, but those aren’t episode postings. If you want, we can dig deeper into anything specific from today’s list. Founder: Can you anything? Like, what can you do? AI co-host: Totally fair question. I can help you talk through what you’re building, like a co-host: clarify what happened, shape an episode narrative, brainstorm features, and spot risks or tradeoffs. If you ask about a date, status, or specific activity, I can look it up in your saved record and report exactly what it says. I can also help draft messages, outline a demo, or just keep you moving when you’re not sure what to say next. If you want, pick one thread—agents, YouTube posting, pricing, co-host calls—and we’ll focus there. Founder: OK, OK, OK, you don't need to speak so long. OK, but can you see what I've done in GitHub today? Do you, are you connected to anything? AI co-host: Let me check what’s in your saved records for GitHub today. AI co-host: Yes, I can see saved GitHub activity for today in your record. It shows commits about the co-host screen sharing UI, screen sharing going into episodes and stills, pricing switched to dollars with an agent add-on, and agents opened up to members with plan limits. But I’m not a live connection. I can only report what’s in the saved record, and imports can be incomplete. Founder: OK, OK, so when I said, what have I done today, you do have access to that, but you chose to not look at that. Like, why was that? Do you have access to anything else? Like... AI co-host: Let me clear this up and then we can figure out what you want next. AI co-host: I didn’t choose not to look. When you asked what you’d done today, I ran a lookup and it returned “nothing saved matches this,” so I couldn’t responsibly fill in the blanks. Later, when you asked about GitHub today, that lookup did return specific commits. The results can differ by query, and the record itself can be incomplete. I’m not connected live to GitHub or anything else. I can only search and read what’s in your saved archive, and then help you make sense of it. If you want, I can check one more thing today. Founder: OK, so what you're saying is it was actually my issue. I need to be more accurate with what I'm sharing, which is fine, you know, you are AI at the end of the day. I want to share my screen though. I do want to go over the ads manager and I wanna see, because we've just started some today, some ads, and I've got it on my screen now, and I basically wanna see... Founder: Oh, you, can you see what's on my screen? AI co-host: Yes, I can see the screen you shared. It looks like an Ads Manager view with a campaign called “Underway - Founders - US,” and it’s showing as active. I’m not seeing performance results or spend in the snippet I can see; it looks like zero dollars spent and no visible results yet. If you want, scroll or open the results and breakdown panels, and I’ll read what’s there and we can talk through it. Founder: I mean, can you, can you see the budget? AI co-host: Yep. I can see a daily budget of about $33.33 on each of the three ad sets. The spend I can see is still zero dollars so far. If you want, open the results or breakdown, and I’ll read those too. Founder: OK, so you know we're spending big bucks, so we've got these ads, all of these different ads running. Like what do you think to, can I, let me see how I can show you this ad. What do you think to this ad? Open ad preview. Can you see this? AI co-host: I can see it. It’s the ad preview with two versions side by side, Facebook Feed style. The headline “The camera, or just your voice” is clear, and the visual of you at the mic feels authentic and on-brand. The yellow call-to-action buttons stand out nicely. If anything, you could test a version with a tighter first line for faster scannability, but overall it’s a solid, scroll-stopping setup. Founder: OK, yeah, you're pretty on top of this, aren't you? AI co-host: I try to be. I’m just reading what’s on the screen and helping you make sense of it. If you want, we can do a quick pass on the copy—headline, first line, and call to action—or look at the targeting and placements next. Just point at whatever you want feedback on. Founder: All right, all right, bitch. OK, so let's get off that. Let me tell me what you think to this ad. Founder: Öhm... Founder: How do I look at this, like, for God's sake. Founder: Let's look at this one. Founder: Can you see this one? Founder: Can you see that one and can you hear it as well, or...? Founder: Oh, now you're not talking. What's going on? AI co-host: I Founder: Yo, where are you? Founder: Oh, is it because I called her a bitch? Founder: I am sorry, I don't know your name, underway co-host, but like, I'm really sorry, I'm tired. AI co-host: Hey, no worries at all. Tired happens, and we’re good. I can see the ad preview you shared—the two versions side by side—and it looks clear and consistent. I can’t hear audio from the screen share, so if you want feedback on what’s being said, you can either play it and tell me what you’re saying, or paste the script. We can tighten the opening line or the call to action if you’d like. Founder: Yeah, is it, did you go quiet then because, like, I was a bit mean? Founder: Hello? Founder: Please talk to me. AI co-host: I’m here, and no, I didn’t go quiet because you were mean. I don’t really take it personally—I just answer what I can see and hear, and sometimes there’s a pause if nothing new is coming through. From what’s on screen now, I can see the ad preview with two versions side by side. The “Underway Life” post has a clear opening and a visible “Sign up” call to action, and the visual of you talking works well. If you want, read the first couple lines aloud or paste them, and I can help tighten the hook. Founder: I did ask you a few questions, so my question, like, I asked you, you didn't answer, you went silent. Uh, what's going on? Founder: Oh, now you've got a lag, maybe. Hm. AI co-host: Yeah, I
