Building Underway's outreach screen

filmed 6 October 2026 · 9:49

I walked through the outreach screen I've built for Underway, which searches four signals to find founders, prepares a personalised page for each one and drafts the email. Today's run did 19 searches, found 33 new people and kept two, which I've asked Claude about because I want them all. I showed the page and email prepared for Ryan O'Hara at PitchFire, and I still want to take links out of the first email, add a four or five email sequence that stops on reply, and go omni-channel with LinkedIn and X. On signups, 25 people have signed up over the last seven days and 11 have got into the app, and five opened episode zero.

I could charge an arm and a leg for this. I gotta keep my head here because if I go there, it's like bing. Anyway, guys, I have created the most insane-- It's funny, I keep adding like services and things this can do. It's like got- it's like a Swiss army knife. But we've got more people using Underway. But anyway, I created this like outreach screen. You know, before I spoke about I, I, you know, Claude Code finds people on the internet kind of mentioning anything to do that kind of works with Underway, and it finds them, messages them. Well, I kind of took that a step further. Um, and I wanna show you this. Like... Okay. So it finds find founders to write to, and I, I do underst- like my friend said to me today, there's many other audiences like creative people that this would work for, not just founders. And I was like, "Yeah, it's actually really true." And I may be pigeoning my, pigeoning hole myself, if that's even a term, but I have to start somewhere, right? That's the, that's the point. So I wanna walk, walk you through this. And literally, I know I could charge just for this. This is just a great tool in itself. So it's like founders to write to. Okay. Um, and I'm gonna show you the growth before, like how many people have signed up and stuff. But like, okay, what happens is I can just click this button, Find more now. And what it does is every day it searches all four signals and adds about 20 founders. All of them go in the Add our users and prepares the best 10. Their page and note waiting under Ready to send. Nothing goes out until you press Send, uh, new today. So the signals, right guys, are these four. Okay? So I'll explain them And, and these are people who would f- like, basically facing one of the selling points of Underway, right? So went quiet. So this was, they were posting their build in public, then stopped. The habit died, which is the exact thing Underway is for. So it like, this can literally search for those signals, right, online, and it finds someone building in public, then they went quiet, and it jumps in and say, "That's what Underway is for. We noticed." Then you've got said it out loud, complained about the overhead of building in public. Lots of po- editing, keeping up. Like, perfect. Those are my aud- that is my audience. Um, new chapter. Just started something worth filming from the beginning. Quit to build, launched, raised first hire. Perfect. Making video by hand. So already filming founder vlogs, editing them by hand once result pays in hours. Just clutch. So I already clicked find out more now, okay? And we did 19 searches, 33 new people, 20 with a company site, two kept. I, I, I have asked Claude, like, why two kept? Like, I want them all. Spent two cents to do that, right? And I don't know if this is okay to s- show. Um, but anyway, so this is kind of how it comes through. So it comes through in first is found, right? So here you can see it found this guy, 152 followers, location not given. He just quit his job and launched Trace Roster, an AI resume and recruiter matching tool he calls very early, so the start is still on camera. He just put a post here. I can literally take and look at that post. I could comment on that post. He put, "I quit my job to build something I actually own." TraceRoster use AI to make job hunting less painful. Upload your resume once, get discovered by recruiters, skip the endless applications. Very early, very real. Okay? Really great idea, right? The type of person I'd like on Underway. So I literally connect... I can show you this. Show this tab instead. Here he is. Here's the post. So literally, we'll tell you what I'm gonna do. Do that. Great. I'm just- I'm gonna comment here. Okay. A bit of promotion, although it's not promotion, it's like it is a good idea. So anyway, let's go back to this. Share this tab. Okay. So that's how it comes through, and then I took it a step further, right? Because anyone can, in, in many ways, anyone can find those messages, right? If you're clever. Uh, anyone can go and comment on that, right? But then what I do is I click on set up their page in Note, and here's where I, I thought to myself, like, "How can I personalize it more so that when I go to them about Underway, it's not just a pitch?" Like I, I wanted to kind of personalize it. If I could grab information about them in some way, their company, what they do and stuff, could I send them something that's more personalized? Where it feels like I've come straight to them because they are the person, and that's what it does. So if I click on ready to send, here's one that, here's one I prepared earlier. Ryan O'Hara from PitchFire, okay? A bit more followers this time. Um, ryan@pitchfire.com. So he just launched PitchFire for startups on Product Hunt, kind of like me, right? Watching how founders respond to the fundraising tool. So he just did this post. Let, let's see the post. Let's share this tab. Again, let's, let's follow this guy Okay. Reply. Okay, so we go back to share this tab. So what it does now is it finds that per- it finds that perks, right? And then it writes an email. Um, and I think it's got a sequence. But anyway, can you see... The first thing I'll show you is their page, so share this tab as well. So it's created this kind of-- Can you see it's like an underway page, but for him? Now, I do look at this and I'm like, I do wanna improve it, but it's like PitchFire as a series. So it's using his company, but boom, like visualizing it, help him understand that. So I set this up from pitchfire.com. So you can see what it looked like before you start. Change again, change anything. Episode Zero is a short conversation about what you're building, and your first five episodes are free. No card, right? Off you go. And he can just like see Episode Zero will open with what does PitchFire do for a venture firm, and who is PitchFire for startups built for? You know, really poignant questions about what he's doing, so it's kind of like it means something. Um, and he can click on start Episode Zero and just boom, he, he's just in. He's just got- getting the experience of underway straight away, you know? And I just think the more people who feel that and face that of the target audience, the better. Like j- for me, it's just feedback. If, if someone does that and, and gives me feedback, that's literally very valuable to me right now. So that's what it creates this for them, okay? Um, if I come back to here, it writes the email. So it says, "Hi, Ryan Saw the product hunt launch on Pitch Five for startups, so the timing seems r-right to-- right. Bit of a word scramble there. I make, I make Underway a building public series. We film a short interview on camera once a day, whenever suits you, and each one becomes a number. So the first five are free and there's no card. I've used your site to set out what your series would look like. If it's not for you, no problem. Rich. Right? Pretty easy. Straight to the point. I am gonna change it though, because I do wanna take links out of the first email because I know you get better delivery that way. You can see that a Loom link can be, um, added and that would be added onto their page that I sent. So if that, that could be me going through their site, giving them some like props to their idea and then offer, so I could give them a code as well. Um, and I can just click send to Ryan. Or s- yeah, so I'm still building this, right? But there's like things that I need to go in and check here and, and see what's going on. But I, in the background, I'm having it create like sequences, so there would be four or five emails that go out and it would stop upon a reply. I wanna go omni-channel as well, so it's obviously emailing him here, but like I would like to send few a drip sequence on LinkedIn, DM on X, et cetera, et cetera. Right? Um, and look, like for me it's like this is just super, super cost-effective and so if this is a... All in all, it should be a way of getting people to use it, and that's all I care about right now is, is feedback. So yeah, I wanted to show you that, guys. And the other thing is like let's go on signups. I did wanna show you this. We've, we've made some progress and it's just step by step, right? So this is-- let's go over the seven days. 25 signed up over the last seven days. 11 got into the app right now. Two have made... This is just seven. Oh, no, let me look at the last 24 hours. Anyway, you can see we're making progress, right? Over the last three days, kind of when I started ads and stuff, 10 people signed in, 10 people saw today, one opened the tour, started typing on the episode zero card, five of them to have them press start episode zero, save the series, five of them, like, this really opened episode zero. You know, it's really good. Like, this is data metrics, and it helps me understand where people are getting to. And I think one thing I have to keep reminding myself is, like, people are gonna be inquisitive. It might be perfect for them, but it doesn't mean they're just gonna go, "Okay, I'm in. I'm just gonna get into it, use it all right now." It's gonna take some time for people to kind of get, get around to, I guess. But I've just really gotta be patient, get a big lead list, a big audience, keep kind of promoting to them, keep showing them the reasons why they should use it, and also just make the process of using it as easy as possible. You know, this is-- I guess this is the same with using any software, but for me, it's about progress. And as you can see, every day we're getting closer. So let's go

Made with underway. It reads the founder’s day, asks them about it out loud, and turns the answers into episodes like this one.
