I rebuilt my AI clone in Underway from three short phone recordings, then used it to set up a 12 to 15 second ad. I played back the clone video from last time, which I'd be happy to run as an ad even though the pacing at the end is off, and showed earlier attempts where the face and lighting were wrong. The model finished building while I talked through how the ads get researched and written, and the new ad I queued was still at 0% when I stopped.

How do you clone yourself with AI from three phone recordings?

by Richard Lovatt · updated 24 October 2026

You film three short clips on your phone, sat talking, up close, and walking around, and Underway builds an AI clone of your face and voice from them in around five minutes. From there it writes and films 12 to 15 second ads in your voice, using your own episodes as the script source, so you can approve or reject each one before it goes out.

In short

  • Three recordings, about thirty seconds each, sat talking, up close, and walking, are all the footage the clone is built from.
  • Building the clone itself takes about five minutes and you can leave the page while it works.
  • You can record your voice separately if you are not happy with it; otherwise it defaults to the voice already learned from your episodes.
  • Early attempts can come out wrong in the face or the pacing; re-recording the three clips and building again is how you fix it.
  • The point is not a perfect likeness, it is a clone that can go out and make ads so you are not the one doing that work.

Training your AI clone

The way I set this up on Underway is with three short recordings, about thirty seconds each: one sat down talking to the camera about my work, one held up close to my face like I'm leaving a voice note, and one walking round the room with my phone held at eye level, talking as I go. Good light and the camera at eye level matter, because the clone copies exactly how you look in these three clips.

You can record your voice at the same time, or turn that off. I turned it off on one pass because Underway already had plenty of my voice from the episodes I'd already recorded, and it will default to that if you've built up enough footage elsewhere. If you're starting from nothing, record the voice too.

Once the three are saved, you press Build it again and it goes off to construct the model. It took about five minutes when I did it. You can leave the page and it carries on without you; your face for each kind of shot comes from the recording filmed that way, and your voice is cloned from the same three clips unless you've told it to use your existing voice.

Why my earlier clones came out wrong

Word on the street is when people try to make an AI clone it never comes out quite right, and I got frustrated with it too. The prompting behind Underway's version is something I spent a long time on, going round and round for a whole day to get it to a point I was happy with.

I kept the earlier attempts and played them back to show the difference. One had my face right but the pacing was off at the end, where the script closed with the website address and the rhythm went strange. Another was off specifically in the face, not quite right even though the rest was fine. One, honestly, made me look like Bugs Bunny.

None of that means you throw the attempt away. Each one got me closer, and the fix each time was the same: go back to Record them again, re-shoot whichever of the three recordings was causing the problem, and build it again. If the issue is the face, re-record the still shots. If it's the voice, record the voice separately. You don't need to start the whole thing over.

Building the model from shoes up

When you press build, you get a working screen with a progress readout, and it genuinely builds the figure from the ground up on screen: it was sitting at Building shoes, then Building legs, while mine were rendering. It's a strange thing to watch but it tells you where it's at rather than leaving you guessing.

It said about five minutes, which is usually sooner than that in practice. The page lists what's happening as it goes: your face for each kind of shot comes from the recording filmed that way, your voice is cloned from these recordings too, and when it's ready, Make a video films your first one automatically.

Opening your AI clone and approving a video

The clone lives under Promote, in Your AI Clone. That's deliberate: the whole point of having one is to promote the business while you do nothing, sitting on the sofa while it goes out and markets for you. Open it and if you've already set one up, there will be a video waiting for you to approve, filmed from a script it picked or wrote.

I watched mine back and was genuinely happy with it. The pacing at the end was a little off, it ends on the website address a bit abruptly, but it still does exactly what I want an AI clone to do. I said at the time I'd put that one out on ad after ad after ad, because the public watching an ad doesn't know it isn't quite the real thing, and it still reads as realistic.

From that screen you've got three choices on any video: Approve it, which puts it on your page and from there you can post it to your socials; Make another, if you want a different take on the same script; or Not this one, if you want to drop it entirely.

Videos to approve, with the finished clone video waiting, and the three choices: approve it, make another, or not this one.

Letting the clone sell for you

The reason to go through any of this isn't the novelty of seeing yourself cloned, it's what it does once it's built. Most people who own a business find the selling part, the marketing part, the actually-going-out-and-doing-it part, the hard bit, even if they understand it in theory and are fine on camera. Creating content, ads, hooks, a library of clips, editing it together, all of that is strenuous even when you can do it.

Underway's clone isn't just reading a script you wrote. It researches the market you're in, looks at what's working in your niche on Meta, and writes ads from that research, in your face and your voice, made from your own episodes. Then it films them. Every ad I've seen come out of it carries the label that it's AI wherever it gets posted.

Setting one up, you pick an ad idea, for example a line like Documenting your build isn't a feed, it's a show, choose which of your recorded looks to use (lighting matters here, one of mine was too uneven and I'd go back and re-record it), and it shows you the script before filming. Mine read: Documenting your build isn't a feed, it's a show. Feeds reward the hook, you burn out chasing one. Nothing rewarded, nothing invented. No words you didn't say. Start your show, underway.life.

What it costs in time and money

The three recordings take about thirty seconds each to film, so a few minutes of your time at most, plus however long you spend getting the light and the framing right. Building the model from those recordings took about five minutes for me, and you don't need to sit and watch it; the page carries on without you.

Once built, there's no limit stated on my account for how many videos I can make from it, with a top-up option of five videos for $99 if you're on a plan that caps them.

Videos to approve, with the top-up price for extra videos and a second approved video queued beneath it.

Who this suits and who it does not

If you're building something and the thought of being the one who scripts, films, lights and edits every ad is what's stopping you from marketing at all, this is built for exactly that gap. I built it because I kept finding the actual act of making the ads harder than understanding what I needed to say in them.

It suits anyone already recording their work somewhere, because the clone draws on your tone and your episodes rather than starting from a blank page. It doesn't suit someone looking for a flawless, indistinguishable replica of themselves; mine has had an off face, an odd pace, a Bugs Bunny moment, and I still run the ones I'm happy with as real ads, because to the public watching, it reads as realistic enough to do the job.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to build an AI clone on Underway?

The three recordings take about thirty seconds each. Building the model from them took about five minutes for me, though it can be sooner, and you can leave the page while it works.

Do I need to record my voice separately from my face?

You can. If you've already recorded enough episodes, Underway can use the voice it already has and you turn off the voice recording for the three clips, keeping only the picture. If not, record the voice alongside the three short clips.

What if the clone's face or pacing comes out wrong?

Go back to Record them again and reshoot whichever of the three recordings is causing the problem, then build it again. I've had one off in the face and one with odd pacing at the end, and both were fixed by re-recording and rebuilding rather than starting over.

What does the clone actually do once it's built?

It researches your market on Meta and writes 12 to 15 second ads in your face and voice, made from your own episodes, which you can then approve, ask it to make another version of, or reject outright before anything posts.

Is it obvious that the videos are AI?

Underway labels them as AI wherever they're posted. In my own experience the public watching an ad doesn't register that it isn't quite the real footage, and it still reads as realistic.

How many clone videos can I make?

On my account there was no stated limit, with a top-up of five videos for $99 available if your plan has a cap.

Training your AI clone to make you money, part two. So hopefully in, in part one you've seen it where I showed you how Underway basically helps you understand how we train the model to set a foundation so that it can actually render you a, let's just say a pretty good quality, uh, AI clone of you. And obviously on this episode, we're gonna show you that, you know. So let's get into this. Um, I think word on the street is when people try to make an AI clone, it never comes out quite right, does it? And pe- you get frustrated, including myself. Um, the difference with Underway is the prompting behind it, I've spent a long time on. It's pretty... I guess I went round and round and round for a whole day prompting it to get to a certain point, okay? So now you guys get to revel in that code base itself. Um, and I'm gonna show you now how we take those films of you sat down, up close, walking around with your phone to create something. Okay. So if I share my screen here, and show you here. Okay. We're back. Okay. Okay, okay, okay. So we're in Promote at the top 'cause we wanna promote the business. And what do we wanna promote with? Our AI clone, so we can be lazy, sit on the sofa, and do nothing whilst it goes out there and markets for us. So we click on Your AI Clone, Open. Okay? Now, I'm gonna do two things here. So number one is the AI clone that I set up before has created a video here Now, because it took and it rendered, it, it took too long for me to carry on that, that episode. Um, so I'm gonna show you this, but I'm also then gonna go through that process of it workings, 'cause we're gonna get a progress update. So maybe I can show you this. Um, and I'm pretty happy with this, and maybe you guys would be, because at the end of the day, when you utilize this for hooks, for ads, it's not about being perfect. It's about you sitting on your ass, not doing the work, and it going out there marketing for you. 'Cause you remember, people out there, the public watching, do not know it's not quite the same, but it does seem realistic. So if I... Can I do... Hopefully you can see this, guys. Full screen. Hopefully you can hear it as well. That would be a nightmare if I watch it after and you can't hear, but here we go. Now, you'll remember on the last one, I r- I remodeled the script so it was shorter. So the only thing about that that I don't like is at the end, the pacing is a bit weird. It says, "Open. Underway. Live." But it still does the job. It still does exactly what I want an AI clone to do, and look, I, I'm happy with that. I would put that out on ad after ad after ad. And I can click Approve it, okay? Or make another. Okay? But I'm gonna go through with this. So if we go back to record them again, I'm not gonna do this bit. I'm not gonna record them, but this is what you'll see. So Three short recordings. Walking with your phone, I've shown you. You've got up close, sat and talking. Okay? I'm gonna click on build it again. Made it really a large yellow button, so you can't miss it this time. So building yoga. So you got your little cool aspect here, where it's gonna create the, this model of me from the sh- building shoes. Shoes is the, the main part obviously. So it's got about five minutes here, which usually it's a lot sooner than that. You can leave this page. It will carry on without you. Your face for each kind of shot comes from the recording filmed that way. Your voice is cloned from these recordings too. Um, but another thing to take into account, guys, is you can do that separately. You can just record your voice, and it will do that as well if you're not too happy with the voice. Um, so when it's ready, make a video. Make a video filmed to your first one. Building legs. My legs do not look like that, surely. Surely. But anyway, let's go back whilst we're waiting, guys. So you've got ads. The whole point of, of this AI clone is not for just like, okay, that's cool, which it kind of is. It's about utilizing it to actually leverage the fact that it's you as an agent going out there into the world and selling for you. I think a lot of people who own businesses, the whole selling aspect, the whole marketing aspect, the whole creating content aspect is really difficult for people. You might understand it, but actually going out there and doing it is the hard bit, you know? And I think the thought of having an agent literally do it for you, you know? So even if you are good on camera and you like creating content, it's strenuous. Creating content, creating ads, hooks, a library of stuff, editing it together, this all does it for you. And not only that, but it researches the market you're in. It understands your program, your business, what solutions you provide. It looks out there into the world of meta, sees what's working in your niche, and then creates ads for you, right? And it's gonna use those scripts with your AI clone to create a money printing machine. This is not financial advice. And I'm just talking here so that we can, this maybe might finish sooner. But if I refresh, let's see what it does. I mean, can you imagine if it went back to the start here? So it's gonna create ads of 12 to 15 seconds for what you're building in your face and your voice made from your own episodes and written for you. Never an episode, never in your diary and labeled as AI wherever it's posted. So it's just building shoulders at, at this point, which is obviously really very much needed. I'll show you some others that I created. And bearing in mind, this is-- this shows the process that I've been through of like prompting and trying to get there. But if I show you this, you'll see how we've, how far we've come. Okay, so you get it. I look like Bugs Bunny or something there. Um, this sat down one actually looks good, but the pacing's a bit off, so we'll show you this So you can see that's actually pretty close. So I was-- Once I'd made this, I was, I was happy where, where we were going. This one was also okay, but it was off in terms of, um... Oh, now you can see I've finished. Right. But I'll show you this one because this one was a bit off, but more so in the face. I was just not happy with my face. You see, we're getting closer and closer, but this one was, like, off in the face, and then we've got this one last, and then I'll show you how we make one. Actually, let's just click make one, shall we? And then we can come back. So I'll go you-- I'll, I'll walk you through the setup, right? So we're actually creating an ad here. So what win vid- videos? 12 to 15 seconds, upright, for ads, shorts, reels, and TikTok. Okay? So you pick which ad, and it's this- done this from research. Um, I wanna do, "Documenting your build isn't a feed. It's a show." Let's do that one, shall we? How you look. Um, um, I quite like this one, "Show my website" option. Um, so th-th-this-- You, you kind of pick your face here and how well lit. You can obviously see, and I think I mentioned this the last one, this one was not ideal. The lighting was a bit all over the place. I would go back and re-record that. Show my website. The script. Documenting your build isn't a feed, it's a show. Feeds reward the hawk. You burn, you burn out chasing one. Nothing rewarded, nothing invented. No words you didn't say. Start your show, underwear.life. Okay, so let's film it. Let's see how it comes out. So it's waiting its turn, so we can see now the percentage. So we, we're not waiting thinking it's gonna take all day. At least we know where it is. In the meantime, let's put this full screen and watch this one. Open underwear.life. I think it's pretty realistic. I think it's pretty good. And what's gonna kill me here is it's gonna, it's gonna take ages, isn't it? Still at 0%. Come on What is it doing? What's it doing then? I don't know. I thought you were running out of space. Oh, do you want me to? Oh yeah, well I thought it would look better on the TV. Oh, shit, yeah. Oh, we don't listen to you. Still at naught percent. Right
