What's up, ladies and gents. It's 8pm here on the 26th of September, Saturday. Still in Vegas, ready to go home now. Last night was crazy, well not so crazy for me but crazy for other people. Great wedding though, glad I came.
I was having a conversation with a number of people last night about Underway. Obviously they followed me before the Underway days, and they brought up, they said some good things, they asked some questions and stuff. And my friend Dylan made me ponder something. I brought up the fact that this allows founders, it's not about just starting something and showing the start, because it is still for business owners who are doing something now and are like, hey, I'm going to still document what I'm doing now. Because you might be somewhere, and in ten years time your business could be in a different place, and you'd be still happy that you've shown that progression.
I said to him, I bet there's loads of times, because Dylan's built something really cool with his members, I bet there's lots of things that you haven't captured. But the thing is with his business is he genuinely has got a documentation, I don't know how much of it is genuinely him just speaking himself to the camera, but he's got a lot of videos, he's got a lot of stuff that goes back. So he's not someone you could point at and say, hey, this is for you in that sense.
But one thing that does stick out for him, and this applies across the board, is I really think the value in this is going to be founders, or anyone at businesses, talking to camera in a transparent way and opening up, maybe talking about the weaknesses, talking about the hard times. Because it's actually those, probably, you know, if I'm going to interview founders about what they've done, and I envision years down the line where this is for me, the really cool bits will probably be not just the initial stages of someone building and creating a business, but what were the hard times. What were the times that don't usually get put on camera.
You know, what about Jeff Bezos building Amazon. I'm sure there's so many cool things he could talk about on camera, but really it's like where did he nearly give up, how long did it take him to get that customer, how did he have doubts. I think people really value transparency nowadays. I was even thinking about myself, most of the episodes I filmed are very much me talking about, hey, I've done this, I've done this, I've done that. And it's like I need to look at myself more and what are the things I'm anxious about or nervous about, or what I think could go wrong, or what has gone wrong. Maybe I haven't spoken about that enough.
Not that really anything could have gone wrong much at this point, but at the end of the day I think the biggest thing that weighs on my mind, and I would assume most business owners think about this as well, is, and I have thought about this in my other businesses where I've become let's say quote unquote successful in what I've done before, even though I've become successful, even though I've got pretty far, I still have the doubts about, imagine if it all just went away. I think for myself doing this, the key is just having genuine passion to do it. I'm genuinely doing it because I'm loving it, because it means something to me and I believe in it so much. So there are doubts, like what about if it doesn't work out, what about if I don't get customers. I think to myself, well, still I'm enjoying just doing this. I can document for years and years and years, it would just be valuable anyway, it would just be valuable to me in my life even if I didn't get any customers ever. I could still look back in twenty years where I've got my wife and kids and businesses and it's all documented. That's valuable in itself.
So yeah, I do implore business owners to just start. You don't have to do what I'm doing now, building in public. I think it's important, but you don't have to publish everything to all the social platforms, even though it is super easy, guys. Literally I have GrokBot, and GrokBot now does it automatically, I don't even tell it. Every day it posts three times, and one of them is one of my episodes. It gets the captions from under it and it just posts them. It does it to X, it does it to LinkedIn, both my company profile and my personal. It does it to Instagram, it does it to YouTube, TikTok, X, like everything. So it's all automated now and it's super easy.
If I do look back about what I built and everything, I think to myself, I wish I had documented it. But it doesn't mean I had to go public. I could have gone public at a certain time once I was happy with it. Or, building stealth is still valuable. But I also do think there's going to be a huge marketplace in the future of builders creating businesses, because everyone has that ability now with AI, and documenting it. And hey, there's going to be lots of failures on there, there's going to be hard times, there's going to be maybe people who put themselves out there and it all fails. But I think that's valuable in itself.
So the next episode I might do on the plane. We'll see.
