choose where post everywhere goes

the short version

post everywhere now means the places you chose.

on account, under where episodes go, there is a post everywhere card with a tick for each channel you have connected: youtube, linkedin, tiktok, instagram and x. untick one and the post everywhere button on an episode passes it by. the channel keeps its own button on the episode, so you can still post there by hand whenever you want.

the phone has the same switches, under its connections. both read the same choice, so what you untick on the web is unticked on the phone too.

why connected was not enough

before this, post everywhere meant every channel you had connected. that sounds right until the day it is not.

you might connect tiktok and not want every episode on it. you might want linkedin for the long, thoughtful ones and not for the quick ones, and prefer to press that button yourself. or a platform might be waiting on something at its end, so every post to it fails, and the one button that was meant to save you time turns into a red line every single time you press it.

that last one is not hypothetical. tiktok approves an app, and then separately audits it before it lets that app post to public accounts. while that audit is running, a post to tiktok is refused. connected, and still not somewhere you want the button to go.

the fix is not to disconnect. disconnecting throws away the connection, and then you have to sign in again later. the fix is to say what everywhere means.

how it works

• every channel starts ticked. nothing changes for you until you untick something.
• a channel you connect later is in until you say otherwise, because the choice is kept as what you left out, not as a list of what is in.
• an unticked channel shows as left out in the rows under the button when you press it, so you can see it was passed over on purpose and not forgotten.
• the podcast feed is not on the list. it takes every episode on its own and there is nothing to press.
• untick everything and the episode page simply shows no post everywhere button. the single buttons are all still there.

what did not change

the words are still written for each place from what you said, and you can still edit any of them before they go. tiktok still asks who can see it, every time, because tiktok requires that. x still shows you the thread and waits for you to send it. an episode already posted somewhere is still skipped there, so a second press never posts twice.

and nothing posts on its own. post everywhere is still one press by you, on one episode, and it goes only to the places you ticked.

why it is on account and not on the episode

because it is a choice you make once, not every day. a tick list on every episode would be one more thing to look at each time you post, and the point of one button is that you do not have to think. set it once, change it when something changes, and forget it the rest of the time.

the same idea runs through the rest of underway: the brand, the polish and the way it asks are all chosen once and applied to everything. where your episodes go is now one of those.
