a dead post does not block the next one

the short version

a stored link that no longer opens used to hide the post button. the episode still had the film, and the words, and nowhere to send them, because the app believed the post was already up. opening the episode now reads that link back. if the platform no longer has the post, the link is cleared and post comes back. you do not leave underway to fix it.

what was in the way

posting stores an id. the id is how view on instagram, view on youtube, view on x, view on linkedin and view on tiktok know where to send you. it is also how the app decides the episode has already gone out, so the post button steps aside. that is right when the post is really there. it is wrong when the post has been taken down, rejected, or never became a page anyone can open.

a reel address can come back from instagram and then resolve to a page that says it is not there. the button had stored the address, so the episode showed view on instagram and nothing else. there was no post button, because a link was stored, and no way on that row to drop the link. the only repair was outside the app. that is the opposite of how this product works. the episode is made here. sending it, and sending it again, stays here.

what happens when you open the episode

the share tab is not the only moment this runs. opening the episode asks each network about each stored id. youtube is asked for the video. x is asked for each post in the thread. linkedin is asked for the post. instagram is asked for the reel with the connected account, and the stored address is looked up the way an embed is. a reel page that says it is not there still sends back an app shell, so the page itself is not the check. the embed lookup says the media is not found, and that is enough to clear it. a reel that embeds is left alone. tiktok is asked whether the publish failed. a network that says the post is gone has its id cleared, on the row and on this device, so a later sync does not put the dead link back.

a network that cannot be read is left alone. an expired connection, a rate limit, or an answer the app does not understand is not treated as a deleted post. clearing on a guess would hide a live episode and invite a second copy. check the posts, on the share tab and on the phone, runs the same read again when you want it, and says which places it could not check.

remove, in the place it already was

remove from youtube was already on the share tab, next to view on youtube, and it already deleted the video. that is still the only remove control. it now sits in that same place for every network the episode was sent to. it always asks before it does anything. nothing is deleted because a page loaded.

remove from youtube deletes the video. remove from x deletes every post in the thread, because deleting the first does not delete the replies. remove from linkedin deletes the post. remove from instagram asks instagram to delete the reel. if instagram says the reel is already gone, the button only clears the stored link, which is what brings post to instagram back. if the reel is still up and instagram's connection cannot delete it, the button says so in a sentence and the link stays, so the app does not pretend a live reel was removed. meta documents that delete for a reel that is still up through a facebook page login. this connection is instagram itself. underway tries both of meta's hosts with the account you connected. if neither accepts the delete, you are told, and the reel is left where it is.

remove from tiktok cannot delete the video. tiktok does not let an app do that. the button says so, asks you to confirm, and forgets the link here so you can post again. the video, if it is still on tiktok, has to be deleted there.

the words already up

update on youtube sends the episode's name and the description in the box to a video that is already on the channel. the title stays the episode name. the description is the youtube box, then the chapters, then any hashtags you left on the caption. the category and the tags already on the video are kept. update on linkedin sends the linkedin box to the post already up. instagram does not let an app change a reel's caption once it is up, and the page says that in a line under view on instagram. the words in the box are what the next post uses.

nothing added after the box

a post used to grow a footer on the way out. the x thread gained a page link and made with underway on the last post, or as an extra post when the last one was full. youtube gained a default hashtag, a link to the episode, a link to the series, and a line about the app. linkedin gained the series link and the same credit. tiktok and instagram gained a default hashtag when the caption had none.

that has stopped. the words in the box are the words that go. a link, a hashtag or made with underway is sent only when you left it in the box. chapters still go under a youtube description, because they are your notes, and a music credit still goes under a round-up when the licence asks for one. the mark in the corner of the film is unchanged. it is part of the picture, not part of the caption.

saving the caption had a second habit. the box shows the words and, on the last line, the hashtags. if you deleted that line, the save kept the old list and drew it back into the box. it looked as if the hashtags had been typed again. they had not. a last line of hashtags is still the list. if that line is gone, the list is empty, and the next save does not put it back.

what you press

open the episode. the check runs on its own. on share, under the words, check the posts runs it again. if instagram no longer has the reel, view on instagram is gone and post to instagram is there. if the link is still showing, press remove from instagram and confirm. a reel that is already gone is cleared by that press. then post to instagram is there for when you mean to send it. the same row has remove from youtube, remove from x, remove from linkedin and remove from tiktok, each in the same place, each after a confirmation. update on youtube is beside remove from youtube. the phone has the same controls under each channel.
