It's 10.14pm on the 4th of September and I'm not feeling good, sore throat, not eating well, not drinking enough water, overload on caffeine. But today's been productive.
I was in discussion with a friend of mine, a videographer, he creates videos, kind of motion graphic stuff, and he's done a lot of that with SAS companies. I spoke to him, we're booking in to do a launch video, and he charges a hefty fee but he does really good work, so I was booking that in for next week. I did think to myself, I really haven't tried to use Claude or anything to make an explainer video, so I'll give it a go now. Bearing in mind I had tried this maybe a few months ago, and I just got to a point where it was just annoying, there was friction, and I thought it's not quite where I need it, I'd rather pay, make it easier. So today I gave it a go and I'm actually really happy with it. It's making me think maybe I don't need to spend so much to get an explainer video, because this really does it, quote unquote, for free. I'm gonna let you guys decide, even though by the time this comes out it's gonna be long gone, but I think I did a pretty good job.
So the website now, when you go to it you'll see two videos. It's slightly different on mobile as it is to desktop. On mobile this template thumbnail is actually set under the fold, it's the second thing you see, and when it's under the fold it's kind of wasted space. So what I did is use the template to place a video in, but on desktop you're gonna see it like this. The first video here is me, it's my voice, I created this, it's my voiceover but animation by Claude Code.
I'm actually pretty happy with that. I think it hits on the selling points, at least most of them that I want to hit, the emotion and the solution. You do it for a year and you literally own the first hand record of how your company was built. So many people don't have that and they look back wishing they did. It's like having a child and not taking photos and videos of your child so you can look back, and then when they're older you're like, they've grown up and now I just don't have all of that, those memories. I really feel like this gives people the ability to do that, to take the friction away and to own something, own an asset. Maybe it increases the value of your company when you do exit. Maybe Netflix come knocking at your door because they can already see the building of it. You might even have editors come to you and say, can I take the footage and create a documentary. These are all things that are coming up, at least in my mind.
I also know that this space is big, the building public space. I was looking on Reddit today, looking at blogs and IndieHackers and news things like that, and it's obviously a big space. I think builders are just not marketers, they're not sales and marketing. I've been in sales and marketing for many, many years, I've done films, TV ads, I was never a builder, but the way AI has grown has given me the tools to be able to become a builder. So now I've got all of these skills and I just realised the friction, it applied to me even though I'm fine creating content. I was looking at competitors today and I think no one is really capturing the market properly, and the competitors are actually really nothing similar to what I'm doing. I also know that because when I was doing some keyword research today, the search terms I would want to go after have really low competition, which is really good.
So that's the explainer video. Then I want to show you this video, which is more like, imagine watching Steve Jobs build Apple from the first day, nobody knew it. This is more of an impact shot to grasp what we're doing here. None of it existed before you started. So build now, start tonight. I think that kind of grasps it as well.
I also made another one. This is more of an AI one, so I didn't like it, but see what you think, guys.
Founders don't write the story up afterwards, they film it while it's still moving. Every evening Underway asks about your day out loud, one question at a time. You answer, it cuts. Episode 47 is ready by morning. Nothing reordered, nothing invented, your words in the order you said them. It reads your commits and your calendar so it knows what to ask. Strike a line and the episode recuts itself. Your logo, your colour, on every card. One evening, a thread, a post, a caption and a podcast. Building in stealth, record now, release the whole archive the day you go public. Take a break without breaking the streak. And every series lives in the directory. Business is being built right now. Two hundred episodes on, you have the one thing nobody can make afterwards. Underway, built in public, daily, on video.
Pretty good. I just think three videos added to a site is probably a bit overkill. So yeah, let's end that episode. See you guys on the other side.
