what the founder video diary app does on iphone

everything the web does, except the things that genuinely need a big screen. the phone mirrors the web on purpose: a change a founder can see on one surface is not finished until the other does the same thing.

• today: the same card as the web, with record, the tray and what happens next.
• the interview: the setup box, the threads, then the question asked out loud and the camera, one answer at a time. leave for now, and the episode waits where you left it.
• podcast days: voice only, the questions kept in, recordable from a car or a walk.
• the tray: record a freestyle, catch a moment, or film five seconds of something on the back camera as a fragment for the next episode.
• the episode: the same five tabs as the web. the cut, cards, share, details and footage.
• posting: the words for every platform on the share tab, and on series one press to youtube, linkedin, instagram and x. tiktok is in its review and says so.

the daily reminder, on your own phone

the reminder is set on the phone itself, at the time you chose, on the days of your commitment. it needs no network, so it arrives on a train. dismiss it and nothing happens: no streak damage, no second ask.

the time is yours. morning, lunchtime, after the meeting, late. an episode is filmed whenever suits you, and the reminder only asks at the hour you said.

what stays on the web

three kinds of thing stay on a big screen, because they are better there: screen sharing, the word-by-word transcript editor and the heavier cutting work, and the admin views. on the phone, a round-up plays but is cut on the web. everything else is on both.

how to start

• make your account at underway.life: three episodes are free, no card.
• install underway from the app store and sign in with the same account, by email code, with apple if your apple id uses the same email, or with a password if you set one.
• set up the series if you have not: what it is called, one line about what you are documenting, and when it should ask.
• film episode zero, then the first daily one whenever suits you.

after the three free episodes you pick a plan: on the web through whop, or on the iphone through the app store. founder is £29 a month or £290 a year, series £79 a month or £790 a year. a plan bought on the phone works on the web exactly the same, and is changed or cancelled in your iphone's settings under subscriptions.

it keeps itself up to date

the app looks for a newer version of itself every time you open it. when one has downloaded, a bar across the top says a newer version is ready, and restart takes it. nothing restarts on its own, in case you are recording. so the phone keeps pace with the web without waiting on a store update for every change.
