New in underway

the logo opens home: what underway does, your series, and your data

a founder tried underway for the first time today and sent us four notes. all four were fair, and all four were about finding your way, not about filming.

  • the underway logo and today went to the same place. two doors to one room.
  • the getting started steps disappear once episode zero is made, and with them the easy way back to the demo, the welcome film and the tour.
  • nothing said what a private series gets you, what going public creates, or who can see either.
  • the only word on privacy was in account, under where your recordings live. people are wary about their data, and the reassurance should be where they look first.

so the logo now opens a page of its own, called home. today stays the place you film. home is the place you come back to when you want to know what this is, where your series stands, and what happens to what you record.

what underway does, in one sentence and four steps

home opens the way a good product page opens: a plain headline, one sentence that says what underway does, and clear ways to start. underway turns your working day into a build-in-public series. an ai interviewer asks you about your day, on camera or by voice, and turns your answers into a finished, numbered episode of your series. you decide whether anyone sees it.

under that, four steps, the same every episode, each with a small drawing:

  • it reads your day: what you capture and the tools you connect, such as your calendar or your code, so the questions are about what actually happened.
  • it asks, you answer: a few questions out loud, or a conversation with a co-host, on camera or by voice, whenever suits you.
  • it cuts the episode: in the order you said it, filler gone, captions and your card on, with a name and a description written from your words.
  • you post it, or keep it: publish to your page, youtube and the rest with the text written for each, or keep it private in your vault for as long as you like.

the ways to start sit at the top and again at the foot: record the next episode (or start episode zero, if you have not made it yet), take the tour, and look around a real account. nothing is hidden behind a menu.

your series now

next comes your series on the studio dark: its name and your one line, the next episode's number in gold, your streak if you have one, and the last episode you made with its date, one press from watching it. one button goes to today to record. gold still means now and nothing else: the number you are about to make, and the streak you are on.

learn your way around, any time

everything from getting started is still here after episode zero, and none of it changes your series or starts a recording:

  • take the tour again: the spotlight over your own screens, today, the vault, context and account.
  • look around a real account: underway's own series, every episode and setting, open to click through, nothing saved. leave brings you back to home.
  • watch the welcome film: clay, our animated presenter, on what is here and what happens next.
  • revisit getting started: the three first steps again, to read back. what you saved your series as, which way you chose to see how it works, and your episode zero, with where each one lives now. nothing is reset.

how your episodes and data are handled

the last section is six short lines, and they say the same thing on the web and on the phone:

  • private by default. everything you record is private to you, and nothing is posted or published until you press publish, episode by episode.
  • a private series. a series in stealth keeps every episode in your vault, made, numbered and in order, where only you can watch it.
  • a public series. going public creates your page, a public address with the episodes you choose to publish, and can list your series in the directory. anyone can watch what is there, and you can take an episode down at any time.
  • where it is kept. your recordings are kept in your own account, with a copy of recent ones on your device so editing is quick.
  • yours to take or delete. the raw footage of any episode downloads on every plan, and any episode, or your whole account, can be deleted from inside the app.
  • never sold. we do not sell your data, and we do not use your recordings or transcripts to train any model of our own.

read the detail in account opens the privacy shelf there, and the privacy policy is one press further. we checked every line against the policy before it went on the page, and they change together.

on the phone

the phone has no logo to press, so home is the first row on account, above the rooms. it has the same sections in the same words: what underway does, the four steps, your series now, the tour, the real account and the welcome film, the getting started steps to read back, and how your episodes and data are handled.

faqs

where is today now?

exactly where it was: the first door in the top bar, and the button on home. only the logo changed. it opens home instead of a second copy of today.

does revisiting getting started undo anything?

no. it shows the three steps again so you can read them back. your series, your episode zero and everything else stay as they are.

who can see a private series?

only you. every episode is made and kept in your vault, and nothing is posted until you press publish. under company record, the company's admins see that you are a member and how many episodes you have made, and nothing else.

what does going public create?

your page, a public address with the episodes you choose to publish, and a place in the directory of founders building in public. anyone can watch what is on it, and you can take an episode down whenever you like.

is my footage used to train ai?

we do not use your recordings or transcripts to train any model of our own, and we never sell your data. the privacy policy lists the services that process them and on what terms.

start your series, free, no card. start free.
