Building in public: Consumer apps

Every one of these is unfinished and still moving. Founders film as often as suits them, and every episode is dated and transcribed. Start at the beginning of any of them and watch it happen in order.

How the directory works

We rank whole series, never single episodes.

Every entry here is a whole series: someone recording their business while they build it, one numbered episode at a time, in order. You can start at episode zero, their short intro, and watch it unfold. Nothing here is a finished company with a launch post written afterwards. All of it was recorded while it was happening.

There is more than one way to the top. Longest running favours the series with the most episodes; longest streak, the ones that haven’t missed a day they said they’d record; recent and newest make sure someone on episode 3 isn’t buried under someone on episode 300; most followed shows what people keep up with. We never rank single episodes by views: chasing one big hit is how a diary stops being honest.

Audience numbers, where a founder chooses to show them, are for the whole series and never one episode. Standing here comes from showing up, not from going viral.

Consumer apps is not a box the founder ticked. We work it out from the one line they wrote about what they’re making and from their intro episode, and they can correct it. There is no list to pick from at signup, because that is where people give up.

People recording in private aren’t listed until they share publicly, and then every episode so far arrives at once, each with its date. Not being here yet is no penalty; their series just isn’t out yet.

Every series page has a report link and a block button. A person reads every report, not a machine; a suspended series comes off the directory and its own page, and that can be undone. Creators you block are listed under blocked creators and can be unblocked there.

To be listed, record a series and share it publicly from your account. The directory is small right now, and it will not always be: a series here today gets attention that will be harder to win once there are thousands. Start yours.
