pick what it's about shows the same list as today, with why

when you set up an episode, pick what it's about now shows the same list as what to film on today. same topics, same order, same tags. and every one of them says why it is there, right under its title.

before this, the two lists were different things. today showed a library of topics with an explanation each. the setup screen showed a row of bare titles, and some of those titles were not topics at all.

what was wrong

everything the director ticked from your day since your last episode was being dropped straight into the list as a "new" topic. a commit, a forwarded email, the day's ad report, a calendar entry.

the title was made by cutting the line at its first colon. so "site changed: 3 of 10 pages look different after the deploy" became a topic called site changed. "meeting ended: strategy and planning" became meeting ended. the hourly ads summary became three topics with the same name.

on today you could half see what they meant, because the reason the director ticked them sat underneath. on the setup screen there was only the title, and the reason only showed if you hovered with a mouse. on a phone, or for anyone opening the app for the first time, the list read as noise.

what changed

  • a line from your day is never a topic on its own any more. it is context: it still reaches the interview, and it still reaches the season.
  • the season does the writing up. it reads everything ticked since your last episode and turns what moved the story on into a topic tagged since your last episode, with a proper title and why it matters.
  • the one exception is something you confirmed on noticed, like "underway is on the app store". that is already one plain sentence you said yes to, so it goes in as new.
  • two topics about the same thing are listed once.
  • the setup screen reads the same library as today: the season's next beats, what you kept for later, and the threads read from your episodes.
  • every suggestion shows its reason under the title, on the web and the phone. no hover needed.
  • long groups show the first five, with show all for the rest.

why the list matters

the hardest part of a daily episode is not the camera. it is knowing what to say. a blank box asking what today is about is the moment people close the app.

so the list is the help. it is where the app says: here is what happened since you last filmed, here is what the story still needs, here is what you left open on tuesday. a topic you can't understand is worse than no topic, because it makes the whole list look like a machine talking to itself.

a title should be the kind of thing you could say out loud as the start of an episode. "the outreach emails never left resend" is one. "site changed" is not.

what you'll see

open record an episode, then pick what it's about. the count beside it matches what to film on today. open it and you get up to three groups:

  • threads from today, when the day has been read for them.
  • what to film, the same topics as today, each with its tag and its reason.
  • still open from your last episode, what it left on the table.

tap as many as the length holds. each becomes one question, asked in the order you picked them. nothing starts until you press the button.

the verdicts, more like this, fewer like this, remind me later and remove, stay on today, where there is room for them. the setup screen is for choosing, not tidying.

when you pick nothing

press the button with lines kept in the tray and nothing picked, and each thing you kept becomes a thread, one question each. those threads had the same problem: they were the raw lines cut at the colon, so an episode could be "about" meeting ended. now each one gets a title that names the thing, and the same report kept three times is one thread, not three. two different things are never merged into one.

where did the day's lines go?

nowhere. they are still in the tray and still read by the interview. the season reads them too, and when one moves the story on it becomes a since your last episode topic with a reason.

is what to film on today shorter now?

it can be, by however many raw lines it was carrying. what is left are topics written as topics.

is it the same on the phone?

yes. the phone's setup screen shows the same list with the same reasons, five at a time.

what if the titles can't be written?

the episode still starts. each kept line is titled from its own words, with repeats of the same report folded into one.

does the list ever use my audience numbers?

no. topics come from your episodes, your day and your season. reach and likes never reach them.

see what to film on your own series. open today.
