New in underway

the iphone app now does what the web does

the short version

the iphone app now does almost everything the web does, on the phone itself. until this week a good number of buttons in the app said "on the web" and opened a browser. nearly all of them are gone.

the rule we hold ourselves to is simple. the phone and the web are one product with two front doors, and a change you can see on one is not finished until the other does the same thing. this week the phone caught up.

the co-host, on the phone

the ai co-host is a live conversation, by voice or with the camera on, and it now runs inside the app. press co-host on the kind row, talk, and end and save. the conversation is cut on the server like any other episode, both voices in it.

episode zero works the same way: a practice run first if you want one, then the real thing, and keep or try again.

the episode, after you film it

  • change this cut: say what to change, in a sentence, and it changes only that.
  • re-record an answer: open the question again and answer it again. use this answer replaces the old one.
  • previously on: open with a moment from the previous episode, or pick a different one from every moment of it, each with its length.
  • the opening: if you talked over a moment, choose whether the episode opens on it or on the episode card.

round-ups and promote

the week in one cut and the month's film can be cut early from the phone, shared, written up for every platform, made again or deleted. promote has all four of its choices on the phone: videos to film, ad answers, marketing assets and reach, and get featured in our ads underneath.

ad answers asks its questions out loud and records each answer to camera, then each one comes back as its own vertical clip. reach shows what every post that left underway did, network by network.

connecting your tools

this was the biggest one. connecting github, your calendar, youtube, linkedin, instagram, x, zoom or slack opens that tool's own sign-in over the app, and when you finish it closes and the card says connected. tools that use a key, like stripe, linear or plausible, take the key on the phone, and the tool checks it before underway keeps it.

  • whatsapp shows its code with a button that opens whatsapp with the code already typed.
  • your inbox address, a new one, a name on it, and what has landed, gmail's confirmation included.
  • disconnect, reconnect when a sign-in runs out, and the choices after connecting: your repositories, your ad accounts, your search console site.

your brand and your page

your logo, the corner mark and the picture behind the cards are chosen from your photos, and made exactly as the web makes them, so they look the same everywhere. your page's banner and photo too.

one thing we found on the way: iphones save photos in a format our server could not read, so a photo from your camera roll failed. every photo picker in the app now hands over a copy the server can read.

seasons, nudges and memory

  • seasons: name this season, say what it is for, measure it by a number or a date, and close it to open the next.
  • nudges: which milestones today watches, your own number against any of them, and targets of your own.
  • knowledge: add a page, read it again, remove it.
  • what underway knows: correct any line, forget it, close a loop with what happened, undo what an episode added, build memory from episodes already filmed, or reset it.

what still needs the web

screen sharing and the word-by-word editor stay on a big screen, because they are better there. three things wait for the next app store version: hosting a guest interview from the phone, and uploading a font file or a file for your knowledge base, which need parts of the phone the current version does not have.

the rest arrives as an update the app fetches itself. open it and press restart on the gold bar when it appears.

faqs

do i need to download anything?

update underway from the app store once, to the latest version. after that the changes arrive inside the app: open it and press restart on the gold bar.

is anything different on the web?

no. the phone does what the web already did, with the same words on the same buttons.

can i connect a tool from my phone now?

yes. sign-in tools open their own sign-in over the app and come back. tools with a key take the key on the phone.

can i host a guest interview from my phone?

not yet. it needs a video call inside the app, which comes in the next app store version. host it from a computer for now.

does memory edited on the phone stay forgotten on the web?

yes. anything you forget on the phone is forgotten on the web too, rather than coming back.

start a series and film episode zero for free. start free.
