the short version
you can now connect more than one instagram account to underway, and choose which one each post goes to.
your own account stays exactly where it was. it is the first account, the one every episode posts to unless you pick another, and nothing about how it posts has changed. add a second account beside it, a brand account for your ads, a second project, a client's page, and every instagram button asks which.
and anything on your assets shelf marked made with ai now carries instagram's own ai label when it goes up, as it already did on youtube and tiktok.
why one account was not enough
a diary and an advert are different things, and they often belong on different accounts.
the episodes are you, at your desk, saying what happened. the people who follow your own account followed you for that. the ads you make for your product are marketing, which is allowed and which you should do, but forty promotional shorts in the same grid as your diary turns a diary into a shop window. plenty of founders already run two accounts for exactly that reason: one for themselves, one for the thing they are selling.
until now underway could only post to one of them, so the other was done by hand, which in practice means it was done on the days you remembered. now both go from the same buttons.
adding a second account
- open account, then connections, and find the instagram card
- press add another instagram account
- instagram asks you to sign in. sign in as the second account, not the one you are already signed in as. it has to be a professional account, a creator or business one, the same as the first
- allow underway to see the account's name and publish to it, the same two permissions as before
- you land back on connections with both accounts on the card, each by its handle
each added account has its own disconnect, which deletes that account's token and nothing else. your first account keeps its switch at the top of the card, as it always had. take one away and the others carry on posting.
on the phone, settings lists every connected account under instagram, and add another account opens the same page on the web, because instagram's sign-in needs a browser.
choosing where a post goes
with one account connected, nothing looks any different. with two or more, three places grow a choice called which instagram account:
- the post to instagram button on an episode's share tab
- the instagram tab of a clip, on the shorts tab
- instagram in the posting sheet of anything on your assets shelf
each starts on your first account. each remembers the last account you chose for that kind of post, separately: posting an ad to the brand account never moves where your next episode goes. the button names the account it is about to post to, so there is no guessing.
underway keeps a record of which account each post went to. an episode, a clip or an ad can go to each account once, and never twice to the same one. the account it is already on is marked posted in the choice. taking a post down from one account leaves the copy on the other alone, and the check that clears links to posts no longer up reads each account with its own sign-in.
the ai label
meta asks for realistic video made with ai to carry its label, the small ai info line under the post. you cannot set it from instagram on a computer, and it cannot be added once a post is up. it has to be set at the moment the post is made.
so underway sets it for you. anything on your assets shelf with made with ai switched on is posted to instagram with the label set, in the same request that creates the post. youtube gets its altered or synthetic content flag and tiktok its ai-generated label, as before, and made with ai is still added to the end of the words.
the made with ai switch is now in the posting sheet as well as on the upload sheet, so you can see it, and change it, right where you press post. films made with underway's own ad tools start with it on.
your episodes never carry it. they are you, filmed, and nothing in them is generated.
the cover
the posting sheet now has choose the cover frame for a film going to youtube, tiktok or instagram. move through the film, stop on the frame you want, and it becomes the cover in the grid, the picture people see before they press play. it is the same cover as on the upload sheet, so set it once.
will my episodes still go to my own account?
yes. your first account is the one you already had connected, and every post goes there unless you pick another. nothing was moved or copied to make it the first.
can the same ad go to both accounts?
yes, once to each. it can never go to the same account twice.
does it cost more?
no. posting is part of series, as it was. connecting is on every plan.
what if instagram signs me straight back in as my first account?
underway asks instagram for a fresh sign-in, but if it still comes back as your first account, nothing is duplicated: it is treated as a reconnect of that account. sign out of instagram in the browser, or switch account there, and press add another instagram account again.
do my episodes get the ai label?
no. only what is on your assets shelf with made with ai switched on.
your diary on your account, your ads on theirs. start a series.
