you can now look around a real underway account before you sign up. no email, no account, no card. it is underway's own account, the one rich has filmed every episode of building underway into, opened as it stands: every episode from episode zero on, the vault, the cut, the cover, the posts, the context the questions are written from, and every button the app has.
- look around a real account is on the homepage, beside the free signup.
- it is under the signup form on the free pages, as a quiet line, for anyone who wants to see the inside first.
- on a new account it sits under the episode zero card, beside take the tour.
- on the iphone app it is look around first, on the sign-in screen.
why it exists
a new account is empty, and that is the problem with it. the vault has nothing in it, today asks for episode zero, and somebody who came from an ad to see what this is finds a form. of the last seventeen people who signed up, ten left today without typing a word. they were not refusing to film. they had no idea what they were filming towards.
a tour describes the app. this shows it. sixty-odd real episodes, numbered, in order, with their covers, the words written for each place they went, the shorts cut from them, and the series bible that remembers what was said. it is the clearest answer there is to what am i signing up for, and it was already there: rich's series is public, so none of it is a secret.
press anything
the whole app is open. open an episode and play it. switch between the cut, details, share, shorts and footage. strike a line in the transcript and watch the cut change. open account and see what is connected. go to today and set up an episode the way you would.
nothing you do is saved anywhere but your own browser, and it is gone when you leave. anything that would reach the outside world stops before it does, and says what it would have done instead: this would post the episode to youtube. in your own account it does. the same goes for recording, publishing to the page, writing with ai, finding shorts, connecting an account, starting the co-host and paying. every note has start your own beside it.
what you will not see
the demo is a snapshot of the account, made again every week, so it never changes under you while you look. it carries rich's own words and footage, which he chose to show. it never carries a key to any of his connected accounts, his inbox address, or anybody else's contact details: every email address in it is replaced before it is filed. the videos are not copied anywhere; the demo is given a short-lived address to each one it is allowed to show, and nothing else.
if you already have an account
your own account is untouched. the demo keeps everything in a separate store in your browser, with its own name, and never syncs. nothing from it mixes with your episodes, and nothing of yours is read while you look around. leave, in the bar along the bottom, takes you back to your own today.
what we count
we want to know whether looking around helps people start, so the demo counts what is opened and pressed, under a random number that means nothing: never an email, never anything typed. in the uk and europe that number is only kept after you press allow on the cookie bar. the privacy page has the detail.
faqs
do i need an email to look around?
no. press look around a real account and you are in. there is nothing to fill in, and no account is made.
whose account is it?
underway's own: rich's series, building underway, as it stood when the demo was last made. every episode is real and was filmed with the app.
can i break anything?
no. whatever you change lives in your browser only, and anything that would post, publish, record, spend or connect stops with a note saying what it would have done. leaving clears it all.
will it change my own account if i am signed in?
no. the demo uses its own store in your browser, with sync off, and never reads or writes yours. leave brings you back to your own today.
how do i start my own?
start your own is in the bar along the bottom and in every note. it goes to the free signup, which opens on episode zero. the first five episodes are free, with no card.
