About Underway
- Do I have to be on camera?
- No. Answer by voice and you get an audio episode, with the questions kept in so it sounds like an interview. Or share your screen and talk it through, with your face in a corner. Or go on camera. Choose each time.
- What if I miss a day?
- Nothing bad happens. Episodes are numbered in order, not by date, so there is no gap. Your streak counts only the days you chose: three a week is a streak. One tap pauses it.
- How long does it take?
- About three minutes of talking, whenever suits you. The episode is ready a few minutes later, with nothing to do unless you want to cut a sentence.
- What does it connect to?
- Your calendar, your meeting recorder (Zoom, Fathom), your sales (Stripe, Whop), your newsletter (Kit, beehiiv), GitHub and more. It only looks, never changes anything, and you get an address you can forward any email to. Press one button and it reads the day: thirty small updates become the five that mattered, and it suggests what to talk about. You pick. Other people’s voices from meetings never go in an episode.
- Can I ask it what I did, and when?
- Yes. It keeps a log of what your connected tools show, ninety days back and updated every hour. Ask “when did we launch the new prints?” and it tells you the date, even if you never mentioned it.
- Does it just ask the same questions every day?
- No. It starts with a few planned questions, then listens: after each answer it asks more, moves on, or wraps up. It remembers what you’ve said before, so it asks about the decision you promised by Friday.
- Is it a podcast too?
- Yes. Every episode also comes as a podcast file, questions kept in. On Series it can go out as your own podcast on Apple and Spotify, set up once. Or skip the camera and make the whole episode a podcast.
- Where does my footage live?
- On your phone or computer first, backed up to your account if you sign in. Download everything, or delete everything, any time.
- Do I have to post publicly?
- No. Every episode stays private until you share it, so you can start that way. When you do, the post for each site is written for you; on Series one tap posts to all your connected accounts and shows how many people watched.
- Can my team use it?
- Yes, with Company Record, our team plan. Everyone records their own episodes, the company shares one memory, and each week you get one film of the week at your company. The company owns the episodes; anyone who leaves keeps a copy of their own.
- What does it cost?
- Start with 7 days free: your card at signup, nothing taken until day 8, cancel any time before. After that, Founder is $29.99 a month for the interviews, your episodes, your page and posts written for your accounts. Series is $79.99 a month and adds posts and Shorts made as each episode finishes, a weekly round-up, a monthly film, a podcast feed, one-tap posting everywhere with view counts, and a one-page summary for investors. Studio is $129.99 a month and adds Pro YouTube thumbnails, an article on every episode's page and motion graphics. Everything stays private until you choose to share it, and on any paid plan you can share the whole vault at once, with a trailer made for you. Company Record, for teams, is $129 a seat a month from five seats ($99 a seat from twenty), each seat with everything in Studio. Pay yearly and get two months free on Founder, Series and Studio.
- I’ve been going for years. Is it too late?
- It’s too late for year one. It’s exactly the right time for this year.
Building in public and keeping a diary
- How do I keep a video diary going?
- Make each entry small and stop counting dates. Underway asks you a few questions out loud, about three minutes of talking, whenever suits you. Episodes are numbered in order, not by date, so a missed day leaves no gap, and your streak counts only the days you chose. One tap pauses it.
- Is there a voice memo journal app?
- Yes. Choose the audio interview in Underway and it asks you questions out loud. You answer into your phone or computer, and a few minutes later there is a numbered audio episode with the questions kept in, so it sounds like an interview rather than a voice note. Every episode stays private until you share it.
- How do I build in public on LinkedIn?
- Share what happened, in your own words, regularly. Underway asks you about your work out loud and turns your answers into a short video episode, and writes the LinkedIn post to go with it. On Series, one tap posts it to your connected accounts.
- What startup milestones should a founder track?
- Track the ones that change what you do next: your first user, your first paying customer, launch day, your first hire, the revenue goals you set, and the decisions behind each one. Underway notices the first time you cross a line, such as a first payment, ten customers or episode 100, and asks you about it once.
