delete a youtube video from the episode

the short version

post to youtube can send a file twice. episode 17 went up twice on 1 october 2026. the vault kept the id from the later upload, so update on youtube would have renamed that copy and left the video worth keeping under the title just chat. youtube studio in the browser answers oops, something went wrong, so the repair goes through the connection the app already has.

delete from youtube sits on every finished episode, on the share tab and on the phone, once youtube is connected and the file is ready. it is there when the episode is already on the channel too, beside view on youtube, remove from youtube and update on youtube. the box starts empty. paste the 11 character id from the watch address, confirm, and that video is removed from the channel. the episode, the cut and the takes stay here.

the linked id, and a second file

the line under the box names the id linked to the episode, when there is one. deleting some other id leaves that link where it is, so the video the vault recorded stays the one update will edit. deleting the linked id clears the link here as well, the same way remove from youtube does. remove from youtube still deletes the linked video and forgets it. delete from youtube is the press you use when a second file is on the channel and the linked one should stay.

the connection already includes delete. youtube is connected with the scope youtube.force-ssl, which covers an upload, a change to the title and the description, a playlist, and videos.delete. a reconnect is unnecessary. the same token that posted the episode can remove a video by id. when the connection has expired, the button says so and the reconnect is the one the other youtube buttons already use.

episode 17 keeps one video

episode 17, in the vault as s_da781465, should point at R9bVEuk1GV0. that is the video to keep. opening the episode writes that id onto the vault record when the stored id is some other video, on the web and on the phone. update on youtube does the same before it sends, so a press from a page that still shows the later upload still edits the keeper. update sends the title box and the description box to R9bVEuk1GV0. the file is not uploaded again.

the duplicate is d-drDBNQ5SY. it stays on the channel until you paste that id into delete from youtube and confirm. the link on the episode stays R9bVEuk1GV0, because the id you deleted is not the one the vault is keeping. the title that belongs on the keeper is the one in the box: the episode label and the episode name, and when more than one finished episode was filmed that day it says which one and the date.

episode 13 has two uploads

episode 13 has two videos on the channel, both titled the video that cut out: IzCzmWzJ0TM and 5DtqrnFPUDw. keep the one named on the line under the box. that line is the id stored on the episode. paste the other id into delete from youtube and confirm. that removes it from the channel and leaves the vault's link in place. update then edits the video the episode still names.

a second upload is refused

post to youtube now refuses an episode that already has a video id recorded. the page already hides the post button once an id is stored. the refusal is the backstop. the server reads the episode again before it uploads, and a stale page, a second press, or post everywhere cannot put a second file on the channel for an episode that already has one. the message is: this episode is already on youtube. update on youtube changes the title and description. the queue that fills a playlist already reused a stored id. the single press now follows the same rule.

the id has to be a real youtube id, eleven characters, the kind in a watch address. a blank, or a string that is not one, is refused before anything is sent. remove from youtube, with no id typed, still means the linked video, and still clears the link after the channel has dropped it. a video youtube no longer has counts as removed, the same as before.

the share tab stays open

the share tab on episode 12 stopped before update could be pressed. an older set of posts can be missing a list the page assumed was there: the x thread, the hashtags, a reddit title, or a chapter with no time. reading any of those threw, and the whole tab went with it, including update on youtube. the page now treats a missing list as empty and skips a chapter it cannot time. a title stored as something other than text is ignored, and the box shows the episode title instead. the tab opens.

update is there for episode 11 and episode 12, and it sends the title box to the video already linked to each of them. episode 11's video is MDVo79MD1hs. episode 12's video is DuTKiwBMblk. the title starts as the episode label and the episode name. episode 11's name is folding context into today. episode 12's name is the one shot launch video. change the box if you want a different title, then press update on youtube. the description in the box goes with it. the phone has the same title box, the same description, and the same update.

what update sends

update on youtube reads the id stored on the episode after the keeper has been written, when this episode is one of those. it sends the title in the box and the description in the box. chapters still go under the description, because they are your notes, and any hashtags you left on the caption go with them. the category and the tags already on the video stay. the file stays. nothing is sent until you press. the same press is on the phone, and it saves the box and syncs it first, so a press right after typing sends the words you just typed.

linkedin, tiktok, instagram and x are unchanged. a landscape episode is still posted as that landscape file. an episode filmed portrait, of three minutes or under, is still a short. youtube does not take a custom thumbnail on a short, and the page still says so. delete from youtube does not touch those places, and it does not touch the file in the vault.
