clips from your episode, for shorts and reels

the short version

every finished video episode now has find clips, on its share tab, on the web and the phone.

one press reads the episode and cuts short vertical clips for youtube shorts, instagram reels and tiktok. each one opens on the line most likely to stop a scroll, plays what you said around it, and ends on a card that says where the whole episode is.

more from a long episode. none at all when nothing in it would work on its own, and it tells you so.

why clips, when underway is a diary

the episode is the diary. it stays exactly as it was filmed, in the order it happened, nothing moved to the front for a hook. that does not change.

but the diary has a discovery problem. nobody new finds episode 47 on its own. the people who will one day watch all of it first meet you in a feed, for fifteen seconds, between two other things.

every interview podcast worth following solves this the same way: a few clips from each conversation, each one built to stop a thumb, each one pointing back at the full episode. that is all a clip is here. an advert for the episode, made from the episode.

what a clip is

  • your own words, and only your own words. a line you struck from the episode never comes back in a clip.
  • it can open on any line from the episode: the number, the thing at stake, the mistake, the claim nobody expects. then it plays an unbroken run of what you said.
  • you, full frame, vertical. no shared screen squeezed into a strip, no stock footage, nothing generated.
  • a zoom on every sentence, captions lit word by word in your series' colours, the opening line big on screen for the first seconds, for everyone watching with the sound off.
  • a quiet music bed under your voice, ducked whenever you speak.
  • a last card: where the full episode is.

how many

a three-minute episode gives one at most. a half-hour conversation can give five. the number follows what is actually in it, not a quota.

and the honest answer is sometimes none. a quiet day, a summary with nothing at stake, a call that went sideways: it says why in a sentence, makes nothing, and the episode stays long form. a forced clip is worse than no clip, because it teaches the people who see it that you are not worth stopping for.

what you see with each one

a title, written the way someone would search for it. one line on why that moment, so you can tell whether it is right. its length. then download on the web, or share or save on the phone, which opens the share sheet with save video, instagram and tiktok in it.

on youtube, set the full episode as the short's related video in youtube studio. it is the link under the short, and it is the single best way to turn a viewer of a clip into a viewer of the whole thing.

what it will not do

it will not touch the episode. it will not put a word in your mouth: the line on screen is copied from what you said, or there is no line. it will not tell you what is trending so that you can film for it. underway looks for the best bits to promote in the background; what goes into your diary is still yours.

does find clips change my episode?

no. the episode stays exactly as it is. clips are separate files made from it.

how long are the clips?

between about fifteen and fifty seconds, most of them twenty to forty.

why did it make no clips?

because nothing in that episode would stop a scroll on its own. it says why in a sentence. the episode stays long form, which is fine.

can i post them straight from underway?

yes, to youtube as a short, instagram as a reel, tiktok, linkedin and x, from under each clip.

does it work on podcasts?

yes, since 3 october 2026: podcasts and guest interviews make clips too.
