the ai co-host comes with your free episodes

the short version

your five free episodes now come with the ai co-host. no card, no plan, nothing to switch on.

on the setup screen, the kind row has co-host on it for every account. pick it, with the camera on or off, and you get a live conversation instead of a list of questions: a second voice that listens, reacts, pushes back a little and follows where you go. both voices are in the episode. you end it when you are done.

on the free episodes a conversation runs up to ten minutes, and there are fifty minutes across the five. episode zero, and the practices before it, use none of that. once the five free episodes are made, the co-host comes with the plans, as it did before.

why we changed it

until today the co-host was a paid thing. the guided interview was on every plan, free episodes included, and the conversation only arrived once you had paid.

that was the wrong way round for a new founder. the first five episodes are the ones that decide whether you keep going, and they are the ones where you have the least to say. there is no story yet. the day was ordinary. a list of questions about an ordinary day can feel like an exam you did not revise for.

a conversation is easier on those days. you can start anywhere, say the thing you are actually thinking about, and the co-host takes it from there. some founders find that is what gets them talking at all.

so the decision was simple: the hardest episodes should get every tool, not a cut-down set. the more people actually film, the more people find out whether a daily diary suits them. and if it turns out to be the wrong call, we can change it back.

what it is not

it is not a nudge away from the interview. the interview is still the ritual: the questions come from your day, they follow one thread, they land on what happens next, and they keep to a clock. the co-host is a choice on the kind row, sitting next to it, for the days you would rather talk to someone.

nothing picks the co-host for you, and nothing counts against you for not picking it. ignore it entirely and your five free episodes are exactly what they were yesterday.

how the time works

  • up to ten minutes a conversation on the free episodes. the co-host is told when time is nearly up, and wraps up rather than stopping mid-sentence.
  • fifty minutes in all across the five. account shows what is left, as included with your free episodes, and nothing about it resets on the first of the month.
  • episode zero is separate. its practices and its real goes have always been free, and they still do not touch the fifty minutes.
  • the co-host time is for episodes. talking to the producer, the voice call that plans an episode with you, stays with the plans.
  • on a plan the rules are unchanged: an hour a month on founder, three on series, up to thirty minutes a conversation.

camera or voice

both. with the camera on, the conversation is one continuous take in the frame you chose, portrait or landscape, and in a desktop browser you can share your screen so the co-host can see what you are pointing at. with the camera off it is a podcast: two voices, your card, captions for both.

the cut is the same honest cut as every other episode. nothing is reordered, nothing is reworded, and the co-host never puts words in your mouth. it asks; you answer; what you said, in the order you said it, is the episode.

on the phone

the same. the phone's setup screen has co-host on the kind row, and its line says the time is included with your free episodes. the conversation opens in the same place it does on the web, with the same ten minutes.

faqs

do i need a card to use the co-host?

no. the five free episodes need no card, and the co-host comes with them.

does a co-host episode use up a free episode?

yes, the same as any episode: once it has a recording in it, it is one of your five. episode zero never counts.

what happens if i run out of the fifty minutes?

the guided interview is still there for every episode you have left. the co-host comes back with a plan.

is the co-host better than the interview?

no, it is different. the interview is built for a daily habit: short, aimed at one thread, kept to a clock. the co-host is for the days you want a conversation.

will this change?

maybe. it is a decision made to get more founders filming, and we will look at it again once we can see how it is used.

set up your next episode and pick co-host on the kind row. open today.
