why a card
the honest reason first. free accounts with no card were drawing people who never filmed anything. an email costs nothing to give, so it says nothing about whether someone means it.
a card does. someone who puts one in has decided to give it a proper go, and a proper go is exactly what this needs. the whole product is a habit, and a habit is not something you find out about in one sitting.
so the trial is built for that. fourteen days is two working weeks. long enough for the first episode's excitement to wear off and the second week to tell you whether it holds.
how it works, step by step

- give your email. your account is made there and then, with no password
- the checkout page opens. put your card in. nothing is charged
- you land on today, where episode zero is the first episode to film
- film as many episodes as you like for 14 days. none of them is counted
- three days before day 15, an email says when the first payment is and how to cancel
- on day 15 the founder plan starts, $29 a month, unless you cancelled
if you skip the card
close the checkout page and nothing breaks. your account is still there. today opens on one card: add your card to start 14 days free. the same button takes you back to the checkout.
until the card is on, episode zero waits. that is the deal the page made, and the app keeps to it rather than quietly turning into a different offer.
cancelling
one tap. manage billing on your account page opens your membership, and the email three days before has the link in it too. no form, no call, no reason asked for.
cancel inside the 14 days and you pay nothing. the episodes you made stay yours, private unless you chose otherwise, and your original recordings stay downloadable. what stops is filming new ones, which needs a plan again.
what is in it
the founder plan, the whole of it, from the first day. the interview asked out loud, on camera or by voice. the episode cut a few minutes after you stop, in the order you said it. your page, private until you choose to publish. the words for each network, written from what you said.
the one thing that is different from the free run is the count. five free episodes is a number. the trial is a length of time, and inside it there is no number at all. film two in a day if the day earns it.

nothing about the free run has changed for anyone who comes in from the website. five episodes, no card, a working week on the weekday default. it ends when you ask for episode six, not on a date.
the two offers live on different doors. an ad is someone we paid to reach, so it asks for the card. the website is someone who came looking, so it does not. if you already have an account, the trial page sends you a sign-in link instead, and your plan stays as it was.
what came off the ad pages
the four set-up questions that some ad pages asked before your email are gone. very few people reached the end of them, and every one of those questions is asked again, better, in episode zero. the page is now one line from the ad, the films and the button.
