you can make a podcast without showing face by recording only your voice and letting someone else ask the questions. underway does exactly that. pick the audio interview, and it asks you questions out loud about what you are working on, you answer into your phone or your laptop, and a few minutes later there is a numbered podcast episode with the questions kept in, so it sounds like an interview rather than a voice note. no camera, no avatar, no script and no editing.

it is made for founders and anyone documenting a build: a business, a shop, a studio, a project. the same app makes video episodes on the days you want them, and the episode numbers carry on whichever you pick. start with a 7-day free trial of any plan, card added at the start, nothing charged until day 8.

## why people want a podcast without showing face

the reasons are ordinary. you do not like how you look on camera. you are recording from the car, a walk or a train. you are tired and the ring light is in the cupboard. you are building something in stealth and do not want your face attached to it yet. or you simply think better when nobody is looking at you.

most of the advice on page one answers a different question: how to run a faceless youtube channel. it suggests cartoons, masks, lip-synced avatars or tools that write the script and read it in a generated voice. that works for a channel about true crime or the news. it does not work for a podcast about your own business, because the whole value is that it is you, saying what really happened. a made-up face or a made-up voice in front of a real story is the one thing listeners stop trusting.

so the honest version of a faceless podcast is simple: your real voice, real questions, and no picture of you at all.

## how to make a podcast without showing face in underway

- press record an episode on today. the first screen asks what kind of episode: pick audio interview.
- pick what it is about: a topic from your season, a line from your day's tools, or a sentence in your own words. each thing you pick becomes one question, written before you start and shown to you so you can change it.
- press set up the podcast, check your mic, and start. the questions are asked out loud in your series' voice, one at a time. you talk for as long as you like, and it moves to the next when you stop. there are no follow-ups and no countdown, and it ends after the last question.
- that's it. the episode renders on the server while you do something else. a few minutes later it is in your vault: one levelled audio file, both voices, numbered like every other episode.

audio interview, podcast with ai co-host and a person asks are the no-camera kinds. the app today, shown with underway's example series; the co-host cards are greyed because the example account has no co-host time.

## three ways to have a conversation with no camera

a podcast is two voices. underway gives you three ways to get the second one, and none of them needs a face.

- audio interview. the app asks set questions, one for each thing you picked, and you answer. the steadiest of the three, and it costs nothing extra on any plan.
- podcast with ai co-host. a live conversation with an ai host that listens, reacts, follows up and digs into what you say, and keeps going until you say that is enough. it runs on co-host time: thirty minutes a month on founder and in the trial, two hours on series, three hours on studio, and more at $9 an hour. a call is thirty minutes at most.
- a person asks. a co-founder or a friend asks the questions, in the room or by a link they open anywhere with their microphone. both voices go in the episode, and the app keeps quiet.

the co-host can also check your own record while you talk. ask it what you shipped on tuesday and it looks it up in your episodes and connected tools rather than guessing, and says so when it cannot find something.

## what you get from a podcast without showing face

- the audio episode: the same cut as any episode, as sound, with the interviewer's questions kept in. pauses and filler tidied, the order you said it kept.
- a video for the places that want one. the server draws the episode onto your card: the waveform moving to both voices, the captions along the bottom, the question in italics as it is asked. that file goes to youtube, linkedin, tiktok, instagram and x like any episode, and still shows no face.
- the words that go with it: show notes for the podcast, a youtube description, posts for linkedin and x, a caption for tiktok and instagram, all written from what you said.
- a podcast feed at your own address. submit it once to apple podcasts and spotify from their own dashboards, and every episode with audio lands on both from then on.
- chapters, one for each line of your notes if you wrote some, so a listener can skip to the part they came for.

## faceless podcast tools, compared

people choosing a way to podcast without a camera usually look at a recording studio app, a free host, an ai podcast generator or an avatar. each is good at something different.

| | underway | riverside | spotify for creators | jellypod | an avatar |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| who asks the questions | the app, an ai co-host, or a person you invite | your guest or co-host, who you bring | you, or whoever you bring | nobody: it writes a script from your topic | you, behind the avatar |
| whose voice is heard | yours, and the interviewer's | yours and your guest's | yours | generated voices | yours, or a generated one |
| editing | done for you, in the order you said it | an editor you use | basic tools | generated for you | you, plus the avatar tool |
| a numbered series | yes, in order, private until you publish | you organise it | you organise it | you organise it | you organise it |
| best for | a podcast about your own work, made in minutes | high quality remote interviews with guests | free hosting and distribution | content about a topic, not about you | a character-led channel |

if you already have a guest list and want studio-quality remote recordings, riverside is built for that. if you only need a free place to host, spotify's is fine. if you want the show written and voiced for you, that is what ai podcast generators do. if you want your own voice answering real questions about what you are building, with no camera and nothing to edit, that is underway.

## what it costs

- every new account starts with a 7-day free trial of founder, series or studio: card at the start, nothing charged until day 8, and an email three days before with the date and how to cancel.
- founder, $29.99 a month or $299.90 a year: the audio interview and the audio episode, video and screen episodes too, thirty minutes of co-host conversation a month, the words for every platform, one tap posting to your connected accounts and the podcast feed for apple and spotify.
- series, $79.99 a month or $799.90 a year: everything in founder, plus Shorts and posts made for every episode, the week in one cut, the month in one film and two hours of co-host time.

## private until you publish

every episode stays in your vault, private, until you choose to put it on your page or post it. that holds on every plan. the microphone is only on when you press record, and the screen shows it. your original recordings download on every plan, and any episode can be deleted from the bottom of its page, with its transcript and everything made from it.

it is also a rescue, not only a format. on the day the camera is not happening, an audio interview keeps the series going: the episode number goes up, and the streak, counted against the days you chose, holds. tomorrow can be on camera again. the series does not care which episodes were voice and which were video.

### can i make a podcast without showing face on youtube?

yes. underway draws each audio episode as a video with your card, a moving waveform and captions, and no picture of you, which youtube takes like any video.

### do i need a microphone?

no. a phone, or earbuds with a mic, is enough. a quiet room helps more than kit does, and the audio is levelled for you.

### is it still a real episode if there is no video?

yes. same number, same vault, same edit, same page. episodes are counted, not days or formats.

### does the ai co-host replace my voice?

no. it is the other voice in the conversation. your answers are always your own voice, and nothing is put in your mouth.

### can i do it on my phone?

yes, in the iphone app or the web on any phone, from a car, a walk or the sofa.

### how do i get it onto apple podcasts and spotify?

copy your feed address from publishing and submit it once from apple's and spotify's own dashboards. every episode with audio goes out from then on.
